CARIS Islington

Bereavement Service

The CARIS Bereavement Service helps children, young people and adults with a connection to Islington who are experiencing bereavement. We will help anyone in Islington who has been bereaved, regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion or sexuality, or whether the bereavement was recent or a long time ago. Our service is free and confidential. Counselling takes place in our premises in Tollington Park and since the pandemic we now also offer phone and video counselling. There are stairs down to our office. If mobility is an issue we might be able to meet at the GP clinic or other location where an appropriate room can be assured.

BEREAVEMENT SERVICE - WAITING LIST & REFERRALS
Our waiting list for bereavement counselling for our adult service is accepting referrals.
Our waiting list for our children and young people service is currently closed. Please contact us again at the end of June to find out if we are able to re-open the waiting list.
We do not operate a helpline phone service.

Referrals

Referrals are best sent by email to info@carisislington.org . Our referral forms can be downloaded or printed or you can ask us to send it to you by email, but it is NOT POSSIBLE to edit or complete the referral forms online . Alternatively you can fill out our contact form. You can also leave a voicemail on 020 7281 5200 but as we are working remotely, calls and voicemails are forwarded to our administrator by email and there may be a delay, so referrals are best sent by email. One of our senior counsellors will phone you back or write to you to offer you an appointment within a couple of weeks. We do not offer a helpline service.

When you meet with the senior counsellor it will be a chance to talk about what has happened and to discuss whether the Bereavement Service will be able to help. This initial meeting puts you under no obligation to accept further visits unless you feel it would be helpful to you.

In an emergency you could try 999, the Samaritans or contact your GP.
